Lily van der Stokker

The Dutch artist Lily van der Stokker paints a mixture of colourful abstractions and pretty pastel coloured images directly on the gallery walls. Clouds of colour rise up the walls, on them one finds small flowers, circles, light feathery clouds, squiggles etc. In short, the kind of decorative patterns that usually adorn the private space of teenage girls' bedrooms which now adorn the public space of the gallery. Interspersed with the images are phrases such as: ''kiss kiss", ''simply wonderful", and ''yes please". But what happens when these ''girlish" decorations are enlarged to almost cover the entire gallery wall? The enlarged format transforms them and infuses them with power. This is Lily van der Stokker's first solo exhibition in Scandinavia.
