Richard Hawkins: "Jealous Jealous", "Suffering Suffering", "Pain Regret"

What does one do with one's suffering when the object of one's desire is both unattainable and absolutely wonderful, like a ball at a palace? To have a crush on the supermodel Marcus Schenkenberg is certainly lovely but can it ever develop into anything more than pent up narcissistic suffering? It is with deliberate self-centredness that the American artist Richard Hawkins goes the whole hog in his own inadequacy when he comments on some of the world's most desirable men. His longing is marred by a certain hypersensitivity, something that, in general, is associated with unconscious conflicts and desires. The basis of this type of love is that it never can be requited which results in one enjoying one's own dejection. Relief for this melancholy and decadent state of mind is primarily to be found in other artists work, e.g. Marcel Proust who was afflicted by a similar fate in his relationship to Albertine.
