During a relatively short period of time Japanese society has experienced profound changes, it has developed from a traditional feudal society to a technically developed and commercially inflated society. Many Japanese teenagers experience a cultural emptiness today which is a tragic but consistent consequence of the market's rapid expansion. Earlier this year a Japanese doomsday sect carried out a gas attack on the Tokyo underground system. The members of the sect have been portrayed by the media as confused and irrational lunatics. Their critique of the Japanese society, which swells uncontrollably and just like Mr Dob threatens to explode has, however, proved to have widespread support among the youth - despite extreme and violent methods. The sect declare that their controversial methods are nothing more than a pale imitation of the impoverishment which threatens Japanese culture.
