Ulla Wiggen: “1964-68”

Before making her debut at the end of the 1960s, Ulla Wiggen had painted for Öyvind Fahlström in New York and studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm. Wiggen is usually grouped together with the photo realists Jan Håfström and Ola Billgren. Two gentlemen who, since then, have received much critical acclaim. While developing the distanced realism of pop art, photo realism also contains a strong distrust of representation itself. Artists do not paint reality - only a photograph. Does a photograph verify a real occurrence? Does a painting? And, if that is the case what is the status of a photo realistic painting?
