Carina Gunnars: A fitted tartan carpet with safety pins that bravely attempt to hold together the carelessly cut pieces. Red walls, a dirty photograph of Vivienne Westwood's logo. The doors to the shabby toilets, as to the cleaning cupboard, have been furnished with door handles from the Grand Hotel in Stockholm. The gallery's usual furniture has been replaced by a much more exclusive type, e. g. a chandelier and bergé armchairs. Two cufflinks from one of Westwood's exclusive London stores are displayed in a vitrine in the centre of the gallery. The piped classical muzak creates an atmosphere of exclusivity, "of how the other half lives", the ballroom and the aristocracy. With only four years to go before the millennium we already have a new name for the latest psychosis: "Fin-de-Siécle". Is it back to the future in a time machine? A dream of success that is already over? Decadence beyond all else. Or has Carina Gunnars succeeded in finding the secret alchemic formula which transforms shit into Royalty?
