Ola Åstrand: "To Mother"

Ola Åstrand doesn't need to "invent" a subject for his exhibition at Ynglingagatan 1 - he quite simply dedicates a room to his mother. When a close relative dies one faces new questions about life and death. For example, where did she go? One way to deal with, if not answer, similar questions is to do an installation about it. Ola has made a sculpture that represents his mother - how she lives on in his memory and fantasy. When a parent dies, one sees one's own life in a different light. Double exposed psychedelic photos represent dream-like associations from Ola's life. Art has in all times dealt with existential and religious questions, in which creativity has functioned as a sort of prayer or rite. Ola Åstrand's room for his mother is the most private of all things - in a public space, and therefore also an attempt to reach out to others.
