Vincent Fecteau: "Untitled" When art critics write that "the strange work X by the artist NN defies all attempts of categorisation and interpretation" or something along those lines it usually means that they have not been bothered to do any research or that they have not understood anything. But in relation to Fecteau's later work this reaction is entirely appropriate. Vincent Fecteau belongs to a generation of slacker artists who came to prominence in the USA a few years ago, he also participated in the exhibition "lo-fi" which to a certain extent summarised the slacker scene. In "lo-fi" he exhibited collages of images of cats which he had cut out from magazines and calendars. His later work has taken a different turn. Small objects in mainly foam plastic with glued on images directs one's thoughts in bizarre directions, e g landscaped offices, "American Gigolo", and a general escape from reality. Where all this will lead is an open question. | |||
