Bruno Mathsson 1907 Sweden

Born in Värnamo, Bruno Mathsson was trained in his father Karl's cabinet-making workshop. From 1933, he designed furniture primarily for his father's business. In 1936, he was given a one-man show at the Röhsska Konstslöjdmuseet in Gothenburg, Sweden. A year later, he took part in the Paris 1937 Exhibition "Arts et Techniques Appliquées à la Vie Moderne". He was awarded the Gregor Paulsson Medal in Stockholm, in 1955. From 1945 to 1958, he mainly practised architecture, designing several simple structures from glass, wood and concrete for use as summer-houses and school rooms. From 1958, he designed furniture in collaboration with Piet Hein. He exhibited his furniture designs in Stockholm, Oslo, Dresden and New York in 1963, 1976, 1976 and 1982 respectively.
